Venly, a blockchain technology firm, announced today that their Shopify NFT minting software now supports Avalanche. The layer-1 blockchain platform, promoted as a faster and less expensive alternative to the top NFT network Ethereum, was previously only available to a restricted group of Shopify users but is now available to all merchants on the site.

Venly claims that buyers won't need to use cryptocurrencies or have an existing Avalanche wallet in order to buy an NFT. Instead, users may pay using fiat currency (like a credit card) and then receive a link to a freshly made Avalanche wallet containing the newly minted NFT, which they can subsequently move elsewhere if they choose.

The Shopify ecosystem has a number of blockchain app partners, including Venly, a 2018 startup that also provides blockchain wallet solutions. In the past, other partners have offered consumers tools to mint NFTs on blockchain platforms including Ethereum and Flow.

Also last October, Tacco App partnered with Tezos blockchain to let users access Tezos non-fungible tokens (NFTs) through Taco's NFT loyalty program. E-commerce platforms like Shopify employ Taco app plugins to provide these services to their merchants. The Taco app enables brands to integrate Web3 solutions like NFTs to boost consumer interaction.

Venly co-founder and CEO Tim Dierckxsens said that the company initially provided NFT minting tools to brands and artists on Shopify, but that there was a rising demand for a basic, no-code solution that any seller could use to mint NFTs. He stated that Shopify asked Venly to create an app for its merchants in order to facilitate quicker NFT sales to mainstream users.

I believe it's one of the biggest evolutions [for NFTs] where this can be taken to a mass market…, and you don't need to understand the necessity of crypto to make the purchase, said Dierckxsens in a statement.

Other possible use cases include tying NFTs to tangible objects for authentication, offering NFT token-gated experiences, and selling NFT collectibles through Venly. Additionally, according to Dierckxsens, there is a great deal of opportunity for artists and creators to sell NFTs via social media platforms that can link to or interact with Shopify stores.

“Our growing blockchain ecosystem demonstrates our commitment to supporting merchants as they sell NFTs directly through their storefronts, helping to further grow participation in Web3 and expand what’s possible in commerce,” said Shopify Blockchain Ecosystem Lead Christina Lomazzo in a statement.

In late 2021, Venly made their Shopify NFT minting tool available on Polygon, the Ethereum scaling network. The second network to receive support is Avalanche, and according to Dierckxsens, Venly will eventually include support for NFTs created using Hedera and the Ethereum scaling network Immutable X.
