In 2010, Cubs World Series Champion Matthew Szczur was given the opportunity to have his blood tested, and learned he was a perfect match for a person in need of a bone marrow donation. On May 4th, 2010, Matt donated his healthy bone marrow to a baby girl from Ukraine. Anastasia received the bone marrow when she was 18 months old, and today she’s living her life by swimming, doing karate, and just being a kid.
In 2017, Matt, along with his wife Natalie, founded the Matthew Szczur Foundation (a not for profit 501(c)3 organization) with the purpose of raising awareness for bone marrow donors and expanding the registry. Today, the Matthew Szczur Foundation is utilizing social media to raise funds and awareness for the Be The Match® Bone Marrow Registry through Matt’s number one passion — art.
