XLABEL, a digital fashion studio based in Australia, has struck a multi-year licensing deal with the estate of Tarzan's original creator, Edgar Rice Burroughs, to bring the iconic fictional character into the Web3 space. The new Web3 version of Tarzan will be featured across an array of blockchain-based gaming worlds, platforms, and metaverse environments, and will be sold as a non-fungible token (NFT) collection in collaboration with Ethereum NFT marketplace X2Y2.

XLABEL collection, dubbed ‘Tarzan: Lord of the Apes’, will consist of 9,999 Tarzan tokens set to launch on March 28 for allowlist members, with a public sale to follow on March 30 for the remaining supply. The NFTs will be priced at 0.05 ETH (approximately $90) and 0.06 ETH (roughly $110) for private and public sales, respectively.

According to XLABEL CEO Brad Morris, the company aims to leverage Tarzan's 110-year heritage and present the character in new and surprising ways across various Web3 platforms. The NFTs sold in the Ethereum network will be compatible with Unreal Engine, the game development software that powers many popular video games, including Fortnite.

With Epic Games and Unreal, there are hundreds of games where Tarzan can integrate, said Morris. “Outside of that, there are lots of blockchain games that we're going to be partnering with. The games are pretty much gated experiences that will allow you to step in as Tarzan.

In addition to digital Tarzan character designs, XLABEL plans to release digital fashion accessories such as ape-inspired hat NFTs and other wearables for Tarzan. Skeeva, a pseudonymous digital artist, and XLABEL's in-house designers spent six months creating the models.

XLABEL's Tarzan NFT collection is not the company's first venture into the Web3 space, as it previously launched an NFT collection based on the iconic fictional character Betty Boop. However, the company has ambitious plans for Tarzan, aiming to create a digital identity that can be utilized in various ways in the Web3 space, including gaming, social media, and much more.

The company also plans to partner with various third-party blockchain-driven metaverse games and platforms to integrate Tarzan into different experiences. The XLABEL representative confirmed that the deal did not involve Disney, which previously renewed Tarzan's modern popularity through the 1999 animated movie and subsequent TV series.
