About

As a Chinese Australian artist, I am deeply inspired by the transformative power of motherhood and the unique challenges and joys it brings. After a career as an urban planner, I made the bold move to pursue my passion for art in my 30s. I am constantly seeking new ways to explore and express the themes that inspire my day-to-day life, and have recently begun to combine traditional painting with digital mediums. My abstract artworks are a reflection of the complexity and beauty of motherhood, as well as the struggles and triumphs of finding one's identity. I am excited to see where my art takes me, and to share and document my journey.

Morning, Day, Night Dandelions bring a sense of calm, they are healing and always lean towards the sun when blooming. They are incredibly charming when you take the time to look closely and notice their strength. I wanted to create something that pays homage to mothers. For those who are, who want to be, who may have lost mothers, lost children, who don’t know their mothers and those who play mother figures. It’s a whimsical take on the unexplained magical (yet challenging) journey we go on.

Give Me the Ice Cream: As a mother, I am constantly juggling the demands of my children and family. On a hot summer's day, when the weather feels like 'ice cream weather', this balancing act can be especially challenging. However, amidst the chaos and heat, there are moments of pure joy and fun. My artwork 'give me the ice cream' captures this balance of emotions that can be experienced. The sweet blobs of melting ice cream represent the various roles and responsibilities that I, and perhaps all mothers, carry with us every day, while the bright pastel colours of the alien landscape reflect the fun and joy that can be found even in the most overwhelming of situations. despite the heat and chaos, we push through and find a way to keep everything from completely falling apart, just like the ice cream that somehow manages to hold its shape even as it melts.

This artwork is my effort to tell a timeless story of the infinite love and bond between mother and child. The use of chrysanthemums is a nod to my heritage symbolic of longevity and devotion in Chinese culture. I incorporated 4 different variations of the flower as it passes through the seasons as a reminder of how short of time we have with our loved ones’ earth side, but the ever-evolving nature and relationship we have is so special. This artwork was the first digital piece I ever created when learning about web3 and digital art, I was hugely inspired by the memories of my grandma and a tribute to the enduring impact of maternal love and the bond that connects generations.
